Hemmingford Grey Manor

By Madame  Kumihimo

On Wednesday 9th September we had a rather special visit to the above. It had  been the home Of author Lucy Boston, who amongst many activities had been the author lots of children’s books, most of which are still in print and available to buy.

15 Hatters attended and after a fascinating guided tour led By Diana Boston, Lucy Boston’s daughter in law, we concluded by adjourning to a nearby hostelry for a nice meal that was cooked to order.

The patchwork curtains which have inspired The Queen to make a quilt like this for Molly! We saw a dozen or so fantastic quilts made by Lucy until well into her nineties!

Upstairs, hearing about the history of the house and how wartime visitors from the RAF used to sit and listen to music from the gramophone. Note how the walls are covered with soft mattresses for leaning on.
