Firework party 2nd birthday

We celebrated our second birthday in spectacular style, with probably the best firework display I have ever seen live and close up, in the secluded and aptly named Secret Garden in Belton. Red and purple blasts ripped the air apart, explosions of colour delighted a rapt purple and red audience, and a few locals who had come out to watch. Enormous thanks to Lady Big Bang of Pyrotechnica (now we understand the nom de chapeau!) and her crew for generously giving of their time, more than a whole day, to put this on for us. A lot went into it – risk assessments, liaising with council, negotiating with committees, buying and planning and sorting and goodness knows what they have to do to make fireworks work. THANK YOU!

We had already met in the Village Hall for a wonderful spread provided by all the hatters, and when the fireworks were all over, we returned for cake, a little birthday number, and The Challenge, a game in four teams, where a challenge is issued and the team put forward their player most likely to win the challenge. Stand out memories were Little Miss Do A Lot singing Wouldn’t it be Loverly, Lady Lil’s brave attempt at a Liverpudlian accent, Dame Delphinium niftily shifting cotton balls by sucking them onto her nose, Penny Forum’s amazing blindfold picture of a hatter, and her equally striking ability to catch a coin off her elbow, My only regret was that we ran out of time for the origami paper folding and the arm wrestling contests…

Belladonna, queen of vice totally gobsmacked the Queen by announcing that the hatters had got together and purchased a week’s cruising for her and five friends, on a narrowboat on the Cheshire canals in August! As a little (little!)  thank you for all her organising. How cool is that? The presentation came with red bobble hat, for cold mornings at the tiller, an origami pirate hat and a red hat emblazoned rain coat, for the inevitable weather. A sincere thank you to all who contributed!  You are all amazing.

  1. It was a truly fantastic night all round, but the wonderful fireworks were absolutely the best I’d ever seen. It was hard to believe such an amazing display was just for us, because those fireworks were absolutely the best I’ve ever seen at any public show. It was fantastic. Thanks SO much!
